Ali Josephine W (Born in Seattle, 2004) is a painter-sculptor digging into the strange wonder of being alive now. Often centering animals or creature-like subjects that exist between the familiar and the imagined, Ali aims to express a visceral and honest experience. Through these live but not lifelike forms, Ali explores instinct, vulnerability, and immediate emotional experience, creating works that are at once unsettling, whimsical, and otherworldly.

Ali approaches each piece through an intuitive, responsive process, starting with an initial vision and allowing the work itself to guide formal and material decisions as it develops. In their paintings, this dialogue often begins with designing a sculptural or relief style frame, rejecting the conventional rectangular painting in favor of organic forms that allow the piece to expand beyond expected boundaries. This integration of the frame into the artwork lets the line between their sculptures and paintings blur.

Currently pursuing a BFA at Cornish College of the Arts, Ali has exhibited throughout the Pacific Northwest, including at the Jeanette Best Gallery, where their work was featured in Potluck Banquet and received both the Juror's Choice Award and the People's Choice Award. Originally entering higher education to study scenic design, Ali discovered sculpture through an elective course and redirected their practice toward fine art. Since then, they have continued to develop a distinctive visual language rooted in material experimentation, emotional immediacy, and immersive form.
